Getting Involved at St Peter's

Vestry

 “The Rector Wardens and Vestry of St. Peter’s Cathedral” is the governing body of the cathedral, responsible for finance, property, support of the clergy and congregation in the mission of the cathedral, most often through the committees it appoints (Parish Life, Property etc.) and who report to it. Vestry meets Monthly, on the third Thursday at 7.00 p.m. (except July and August). Vestry is elected at the Cathedral Annual General Meeting.

Parish Life

The Parish Life Committee or PLC is appointed by Vestry to oversee and encourage the spiritual development and pastoral care and outreach of the Cathedral. The committee includes representatives from the groups in the parish responsible for particular ministries. e.g. the Choir, the Sunday School, Seniors Support. As well as backing these, the committee also provides a place to plan for the present and future life and growth and mission of the Cathedral.
PLC meets monthly on the 1st Thursday at 7.00 p.m. (Except July and August)

Christian Education

On Tuesday evenings the Cathedral engages faith and life, sometimes with talks and discussion of topics especially opened up to the wider community, such as The New Atheism, Alzheimers, Pilgrimage, Euthanasia, or sometimes in a study series for small groups e.g. Praying the Psalms, music in the church.

Sunday School

Jesus said, “ Let the children come to me” and that is the goal of the Sunday School at St. Peter’s, to provide an encouraging, educational and fun experience for the youngest among us, who are getting to know Christ.
The Sunday School meets at 10.15 from September to June.

Altar Servers

Each Sunday, and special weekdays e.g. Christmas and Ascension, Holy Week leading up to Easter, servers assist in the worship of the Cathedral. The Liturgy involves considerable knowledge and skill.
The Sacristan and Assistant Sacristan provide the guidance needed.

Choir

The voices of the choir and the organ have enriched the worship of the Cathedral from the beginning of the parish. The choir rehearses on both Wednesday evening and Sunday morning before the Sung Mass. They sing in addition at Evensong on major feasts, throughout Holy Week, at Christmas Midnight Mass and Christmas morning as well as other special occasions throughout the year. A different Mass setting, Propers from the English Gradual, and a Motet are offered each week. ​

Inglis Group

A group of Anglican Church Women who have served the parish faithfully for many years catering to weddings and funerals, anniversaries, Parish Family Meal in Holy Week, etc.  At the end of 2022, the decision was made that this group would cease to function.

Binney Group

A group of Anglican Church Women whose meetings include Education, subjects as diverse as a Senator describing her first 100 days in Ottawa and Support of a sewing Project in Papua New Guinea. The Binney Group supports outreach projects through catering to the monthly meeting of the Charlottetown Christian Council in the Cathedral Hall, the annual Christian Council sponsored worship in Holy week at the Cathedral and other fundraisers. Meet 1st Monday of each Month at 7.00 (except July and August)​

Men's Group

The men of St Peter's meet for dinner, with an after dinner speaker, support the special education events, organize fundraising dinners. Provide help, where needed in the Parish, e.g. assisting the Altar Guild polishing brass et cetera.

Young Men and Women's Group

​Meet for fellowship and seek to assist the life of the parish , especially supporting outreach e.g. welcoming refugees.

Altar Guild

Teams of two or three on a weekly basis care for the communion vessels, altar hangings and vestments for weekday and Sunday mass
in the Chapel and Cathedral.

Property Committee

Advise the Property Warden on all matters related to the development and care of Cathedral properties, The Cathedral, All Souls' Chapel, Cathedral Hall, Church House, and Rectory. Two sub-committees , the Chapel Committee and Cemetery Committee report to the Property Committee.

Finance

Meets occasionally to support the Finance Warden, and annually to set the budget.

Chapel Committee

Encourages increased awareness and use of our beautiful and historic All Souls' Chapel and preservation of the Chapel fabric, enabling the daily office and mass to be offered. ​

Archives

Meets Mondays at 1.00 p.m. Cares for and catalogues the many documents , artifacts, and library, which inform the memory of the Cathedral.
