Father David Harris leaving us, moving to England
On Sunday, Nov. 28, at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services, the Rector made the following announcement:
This morning, I must inform you, with regret, that Father David Harris, our Assistant Priest, has decided that the time has come for him to move on. He has accepted a position in England. He is to become the Vicar and Rector of St. Giles' Church in the town of Reading, (near Oxford), in England.
This announcement is being made today both here at St. Peter's Cathedral, and at St Giles' Church in England, the parish to which he is going.
The exact effective date of this is not yet known, because of the complexities of immigration procedures involved in moving himself and his entire family to England. But Father David tells me that it will likely be within the next two or three months.
Father David has been with us now for over nine years, having come here in September 2001. We are grateful for his work in our parish and in the Parish of Georgetown, during these nine years. We will not only miss Father David but of course we will also very much miss his wife Valerie and the seven children.
Please keep Father David and his family in your thoughts and prayers, as he prepares to take on new challenges in a new setting, and as he and his family prepare to move to England in the near future.
PLEASE NOTE: Since this announcement was first made, we learned that Father David and his family would be leaving us as of the first week of January. His final service with us was the 10:30 a.m. Sung Eucharist on Sunday, January 2nd. A "Farewell Event" for him, his wife Valerie, and their seven children, was held that day, following the service.
